For anyone interested in a ZTR I would recomend the
Country Clipper Charger. I bought one the first of summer
ran for a few weeks then sold it to my brother he kept
using mine so I sold it to him and went and bought me another one. My son has a scag he bought last summer
and its not near the mower that the Clipper is I have a
hill so steep that the scag won't do nothing but slide down,
the Clipper will mow the hill side all day long, the only thing
is the arm rest bent on me where I try to hold myself up
from the slope mine has the joystick not twinstick. My son
is selling his scag tiger cub and getting a Clipper.
Only one bad thing is having one hand free is drinking to much
pop. Service is a breeze with the flip out deck, change blade in
5 minutes. Awesome mower recomend to anyone.

I have the exact same mower and concur.

It'll hold a hill like no other brand I've tried. I had to pass on some other nice units for that reason alone.

The flip up deck and joystick control are fantastic.

The only little thing I found I don't like is the emergency brake (when engaged) partially covers the cup holder. Not an issue when disengaged/driving. If that's the only defect, I can definitely live with it.

Let your dealer know,I was at my dealer when their
rep was in and telling them about the arm rest bending,
and they offered to build me some heavier ones,
and then I heard the rep tell the dealer that Clipper
was going to start making one of the mowers with ajustable
arm rest that they had requested so sounds like clipper
will make changes on customer input.

I'll keep it in mind but I haven't encountered any issues with the arm rests.

What is the going rate for one?

Kawa or kohler engine preference?

Drove by a dealer the other day and they look interesting.

Dealer was a one man show, small place. I called thier Ga number (distributor) and got a list of dealers. Most seemed like small mom and pop garden centers. It does make we wonder about dealer support/parts/wrty help.

Looking hard at a scag, but, my dad needs to be able to ride it, and my neighbors ztr (he lets me borrow it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) is kind of "hard" on my dad's small framesize working the dual sticks. Thinking that joystick (on the charger) would be much easier for him (my dad) to use.

Thks

I bought mine (the Charger) in April of 04 for $6495.

I got the Kohler engine. The Kaw was more (but I don't recall how much) and the dealer said for my purposes, the Kohler won't be a problem. He's right.

The place I bought it was also a small shop. Although I haven't had any need for parts/service, the neighbor bought a tractor from the same guy and has had great service.

I believe the joystick is easier on the arms (and shoulder) but I have limited seat time in the dual stick models. Put your arm down on the armrest and only your hand needs to move.

If you're looking at the CC's, you may also want to look at the Jazee lineup if you want something a bit smaller.

Sigarms,

I'm sure you already read this thread, but since you asked the question about Kaw or Kohler, I figured a link couldn't hurt.
Kaw or Kohler

The "general" conclusions seemed to be the guys who were planning the most abuse leaned Kaw, but if price or parts availability favored the Kohler, you'd have no regrets going Kohler. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Brian, I didn't bother to find the thread, but I think there was one where we got slightly off track and you had to tease us twin-stick guys about having less efficient use of the cupholder too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway...
Sigarms, one handed operation is possible with twin-stick, but now there is quite a learning curve. If you were now leaning towards the joystick; I figured you could use the "one handed operation" factor to put the decision over the edge. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have fun!
