Couple bean combining pics

Finally the beans were picked. Didn't have many due to the wet spring and late planting. Young local guy did the picking, he does for many people in this area. Might have got 25 bu/acre and county average is 40 bu/acre.
He had a 4 wheel drive IH and didn't get stuck but the fields were slick.

Had a similar combine picking corn in the field behind us yesterday. He was flying, which I think means not much harvest.

Pretty cool pics. It must be satisfying to have planted them with your tractor after the rebuild, and then seeing the beans grow and then harvest them!!!!

Is there any money in this? or is it more of a hobby/tax shelter?

The combine was a 1460, I believe.
The deer and turkey will live "high on the hog" from all the beans that were left behind. My neighbor shot a nice 8 pt this morning close to the beans and it was fat and healthy.
It was very satisfying to see the pile of beans in the dump truck after picking. As far as making money I won't have much left after deducting the cost of seeds, diesel fuel, spray, fertilizer costs were zero because one of my neighbors hauls in liquid pig manure. I did take out crop insurance and have 70% coverage so that is going to help out. I can't complain because we had a really good year from our sweet corn business. I guess it's more a labor of love than anything.

Terms used vary at times and to me are interesting.

Here we "cut" soybeans. We pick green beans. We "pick" ear corn but "cut" grain corn. But we did "break" corn by hand and then went to picking it by machine to cutting it. I for one like the difference in such terms from region to region and time line to another. Oh the one that seems to be most popular now here is "combined". That has replaced, pick, cut or break. Just a generic "combined". Not as colorful by any means.

I notice those regional variations all the time too. We usually say cutting grain corn and beans as well. I heard an old timer call it "shelling" corn that he was cutting the other day. Another one I notice on TBN is the brush hog, shredder name for the piece of equipment we call a bush hog around here.
