I posted another thread about winching my dead tractor. Before the tractor died I had a productive day and took a couple of photos.
My wife tells me that it's time to build some type of restroom facilities out at the property so that when folks come to visit, like the inlaws, they have some options other than my trusty goon spoon. So I looked on the internet about pit privys and find that the pit should be 3 foot square and 5 feet deep. My logger guy had been out with his huge excavator and dug me a hole 6 feet deep with his 3 foot bucket in about 1 minute. Good deal except an excavator can't dig a straight hole, it ends up being more like a big trench. This means I need to build some cribbing so that I can backfill my hole into the right shape. My 3YO daughter and I made this cribbing at home and it was heavy so I used the machine to lift it. Pic #6.
I eventually got it in the hole and smooshed down level. I backfilled with dumped garbage and other things I wanted to bury. I then put about 6 inches of dirt inside the cribbing to anchor it down and provide a nice surface for impact. Pic #7. I stuck pipes in there so hopefully noone would unexpectedly fall into the hole. I will be building an outhouse to set above the hole in the next couple of weeks. I have already caught one house in my hole.
I then had some wood to move and was inspired by Dmace to load as much as possible into the bucket. These are alder logs. I am not sure if I got enough in there to satisfy Dmace but I couldn't put anymore in without being dangerous and risking another hood dent. Pic #8
And another view, Pic #9. It took 4 of these loads to clear the logs out.
Thanks.
