Covered fire pit

Steel Carport
I would like to have one of these carports to cover my fire pit. What could be used to make a flew to run through the roof? Would probably need to close in a couple of the sides to keep wind out.
Don't have a fancy pit, just some rocks in a circle. We enjoy building a fire and just sitting around it talking with friends.

First is a look at local codes & regulations.
Hood over the fire, metal chimney, chimney adapter, more metal chimney chimney cap.

Fireplace stores or places like HD may have all the parts you need. You may have to find a metal smith for the hood.

With a metal car port just make a hood and run a pipe from it through a hole in the roof. Who cares if it leaks a little, it won't hurt a thing. Won't need a cap for the same reason. Ed

We have something similar at our deer camp. We don't have a hood or flue pipe and we've had no issues with it being too smokey. Ours is open on all 4 sides and we don't have blazing huge fires that would get too hot.

Any sheet metal shop should be able to make you a galvanized sheet metal hood though.

Be cautious about the galvanized metal though. If it gets too hot it can off-gas some very harmful fumes. But to be honest, I'm not sure hot hot it needs to get though. I know that cutting or welding on galvanized is very dangerous without proper ventilation. Just something to consider. I guess if it's not too close to the fire and/or you don't build any herculean fires, you should be fine. My local hardware store sells galvanized fire rings so what do I know?
Either way, it's an awesome idea. Sitting around a campfire during a downpour would be awesome!
