I added a pipe over the cutting edge of my snow blower today. It has a good adjustable shoes, but anyone that blows or plows knows that you get into soft stuff sometimes. If I hit my gravel drive or roadway out front with that slanted hardened cutting edge it would be a bad thing. I bought a normal 2" I.D. schedule 80 plow pipe from my local machine shop and widened out their pre-slotted opening out to about 13/16". Then hog'd out clearance holes for the cutting edge bolts. Same type pipe I have on my front blade on my 420. The pipe generally protect the blade or blower from digging into the gravel. Most plow trucks up here in God's country run the same pipe. It's not fool proof, but really should help... We'll see how she does later in the winter... :)

I sincerely want to thank you for posting this thread. After reading it I tried a 4" schedule 40 pvc edge on the advice of my dealer and this worked out fantastic on pavement but went bye bye on gravel. I then obtained an 8' long piece of 3" schedule 80 steel pipe and cut a slot in it with my plasma cutter to allow me to put it over the cutting edge. After I got it on the plow I used 2 - 3/8" bolts 6" in from each end and then started plowing the gravel parking lot and roads at the local gun club.

What a huge difference! I've never seen the pipe cutting edge before but I can tell you this, I'm going to put one on my atv plow as well. No more digging up gravel and grass. I love it!!
