First let me say, that I don't consider video surveillance as "Security"
Second, I hate spending money on electronics. A waste of money and too soon defective or obsolete.
I needed some covert "situational awareness" on a budget.
Single Channel Digital Recorder from TomTop (China) $28.00 CDN
LOW Light Color Camera with 3.6mm lense $35.00 USD From E-Bay (China)
32 GIG Micro Flash Card, Amazon CA $23.00
The Monitor is just a junky one I use for setting up basic Video style cameras.
The Recorder works in steady, motion sense or mixed modes. Chinglish instructions are terrible! Files are viewable on a standard media player.
Covert cameras are also available in pin hole and one I saw disguised as a Philips Screw, but not in this low light configuration. And I did not want IR illumination. The camera isn't bad, but I wish the color was a bit brighter and there are no adjustments. I found out a long time ago, that one can never evaluate a camera unless you had a side by side comparison to another. This camera does use the SONY 1/3" CCD, (Not 1/4") which is a good reference point for quality. And BTW, you don't have any color with any camera in low light.
Both Camera and Recorder work on 12 VDC. Fairly high currents so solar power might not be an option.
