Man, that's some sausage. Imagine coming across that on a walk in the forest! Reminds me of the creatures in the fire swamp in "the princess bride" movie.

Hey Eddie, any near that big down your way? The one pic where Steph has shot one shows a pretty big porker.

220KG per the story, = 485#. Something's not right. I've slaughtered hogs that went 380# when hung to drain, and they were no where that big. That pig looks 9' butt to nose.

The size wouldn't make all that much difference in terms of danger. A 100# feral boar intent on doing you damage can maim and kill you quite thoroughly, and is probably way faster than the one pictured. Most folks not familiar with hogs/pigs dramatically underestimate their intelligence and their quickness. Once our feeder pigs got past around 40-50# we could no longer physically manage them by brute force, and even then they were very tough to pick up or move by hand.

Yep, almost bound to be a misprint, cause that critter would have to weigh more than 220 kg.

I agree that hog is closer to 1k than 450

Thanks for posting the link to the story. I haven't seen it before and enjoyed reading the article. While I can't say if it's a true story or not, I always have my doubts when they get to a certain size. This one is well over that size where I start to question things.

National Geographic did a really good, in depth show about wild hogs. One of the things that they covered was the ability of a wild animal to grow to extreme proportions. Especially how unlikely it is since they would have to find so much more food then the other animals competing for food, then it's size would hinder it in surviving in the wild due to it's need for more food then the other pigs. What they did say is that domestic hogs can easily get that large, and larger. Sometimes they escape captivity, other times they are released on purpose.

Maybe the story is 100% as the hunter knows it, but my guess is that somebody raised that hog and force fed it to get that big. Of course, that is if the photo is real to begin with.

Yes, it looks like it would weigh more than 485#. A farmer near here killed a 600# boar lately and it was not as big as the one pictured here. It was 8' long from hind foot to snout when hung from a tractor loader.

Any chance the camera plays a deceiving part in the size of this hog? The man, John, is leaning on his passenger door,..the hog is hanging beside the truck's rear wheel. They must be five feet apart? If they traded places, do you think the pig would "appear" smaller than the man? Or at least perhaps not quite as gigantic? Just my 2 cent suggestion, even though it appears to be a pretty large hog.
