I'd like to share a video with you. I've lived around coyotes most of my life and I find it interesting that some people are not comfortable knowing that they may be around. I find coyotes very shy. This week they were carrying on, up by a gate whose lock I had to thaw at 10PM. They shut up as I approached and all I saw were tracks. Don't get me wrong, I believe all wild animals should be respected and I don't go out of my way to encounter them. I also understand why livestock farmers can't be as laid back as I am. On the local food chain I'd put coyote below either of the two eagles I saw last week. They were very impressive.
I cross coyote paths daily (and nightly) in the winter but until this morning I've never had a chance to get a decent picture.
Here's a video of one that has a trail not 10' from my bedroom window. The video was taken around 7:30 AM today from the second story of the house I am building. She scrams because my wife could not hold still and wait for her to get closer. :)
At my previous home the events you are about to see would have been reported in the local paper as a "human vs coyote confrontation".

Cool video thanks for sharing. I too have grew up around them and do not fear them, they have a place here as well and humans just have to learn how to axcept them when they move to the country.

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Live and let live, that's my motto. Except for moles, who are RUINING my pasture and lawn (gonna have to trap them).

We have coyotes where we live; our neighbor saw the litter they had this past summer. I like listening to them howl in the night. fortunately so far we haven't lost any lambs to them, just a chicken or two (maybe or it could be neighborhood dogs--statistically they kill more livestock then wolves or coyotes).

I'm surprised it came so close, considering all the NOISE you guys were making :)

I think the rustling of the house wrap in the wind masked most of our movements but my wife was running around like a little kid trying to get a better look. I told her that next time I was going to hide her shoes so she would have to stay in the house. :)

My closest encounter was a coyote following me on my tractor as I mowed a field of high grass and brush. It got lots of small field mouse snacks for its trouble. I guess it followed me for over 2 hours and wasn't scared away until I stopped the tractor to get off and clear some weeds and grass that were wound up in the PTO universal joint. Your video just looks like a critter lookin' for a meal on a very cold day. It would have been really special if it had heard a mouse below the snow and dug it out, but you have to take what nature gives you and your video is pretty cool.

Down in Navarro County, we saw coyotes frequently and could hear them almost any night. The ones we saw were most frequently singles, although a couple of days, I saw a pair frolicking in our pasture, probably a hundred yards behind the house. And once while cutting hay, there were 5 coyotes in the small area I had just cut, obviously hunting mice. Most of the farmers would try to shoot every coyote they saw, but we still had plenty of them.

He/she hunts the frozen mouth of the river from the edge of my yard around to the other shore. There's always something there due to the open water. I've had deer bed down in my yard some nights. Right now there's a wounded cormorant as well as geese, ducks and swans, beaver otters and muskrat. Over the winter some of them will fall prey to the coyote.
