I noticed a crack in the large tube that the tilt crank is welded to near the weld. I have been watcheing for this because I expected it to happen sooner or later. Do you have to buy the complete lifting assembly or just the crank, tube and pin. I will stop drill and weld the crack this week end for a temp. fix.

Several of the Pt's have had that trouble. Some tried to weld, and it cracked next to the re-weld. You might also warp, or distort the roll over tube. I replaced both parts on my 1445. I don't know what model PT you have, but I believe the new roll over tubes are thicker. If you do have to replace the roll over tube, it is probably better if you just cut out the large shaft. You then have to cut the two ends out of the lift arms. I used a Stahl 14 in saw with a metal cutting blade, and cut the shaft just inside of the lifting arms. Took about 5 min per side. I also burned a hole in my pants from the sparks.

If you have to remove the entire assembly, note how the tilt arm is mounted, long side down, long side up. Flat side forward or flat toward the rear. If the tilt arm is symmetrical, it can go either way.

Apparently that center portion of the shaft and tube is getting a good workout, and it will not get any better. The temp weld might hold for a while.

No, you do not have to purchase new liftig arms.

Thanks for the detailed info for everyone about the orientation of the rollover parts.

I had to replace the parts on my PT-425.

The new tube is indeed much thicker than the original. No problems since that repair.

I'm still a little bit upset about the $200 plus shipping that I had to pay (total nearly $300) plus the welding ($65 twice and a third time for the replacement for work on a tractor only one year old with under 300 hours.

Seems like poor design.

Mine developed a very large crack there. I just welded it with several passes being careful not to stick the shaft inside the tube and it has held every since. I was prepared to brace and reinforce it but after a lot of use and heavy lifting it is still holding.

Mine cracked also and my friend had it welded, but he added a couple of reinforcements at the same time. That was about 25-30 hours ago... Time will tell.

I did weld it the other day I'm going to watch it for a while. I will be using the mini hoe and doing a lot of bucket work. If it cracks again I'll most likely order the up graded assembly.
