MF 1540
I have a MF 1580 mounted on a MF1540 purchased new in 9/05. There are 40 hours on it and probably less then half those hours were running the BH. The detachable portion of the subframe is cracked on both the Left side and the Right side . Called the dealer and e-mailed him these pictures. He stated that this is the first generation sub-frame and that I should have recieved the newer sub-frame. He'll be coming out to pick it up and replace the cracked sub-frame with the newer model. Working with a good dealer does make life less stressful! Now to see if he can do the 50 hour check while it's at the shop even though I'm only at 40.4 hours.

From the way the crack and weld looks, I would say that there was an error with the weld. Did you contact your dealer?

Edit: I missed the dealer part. I would say that that will take care of you problem. If any others have had this problem, I haven’t heard of it. I know that I have had tow MF sub-frames like that and haven't had any problem.

The fellow that picked it up last night said they'd had about 5 that they needed to upgrade. Didn't say if they were broken or if it was just an upgrade that MF put out.

I'll post pictures of the replacement unit when I get it back.

Any kind of upgrade from MF is amazing. They test everything so well before they ever send it to the dealers that customers are never guinea pigs for the company. They really try to get it right before they sell anything unlike some companies. It does keep them from being the first to have a new product etc, but I would rather it be rolled out later than to have to keep taking it back and being the R&D department for them.

Would have posted the update sooner but I needed to redo the pictures. My MF1540 was returned washed (needed it), 50 hour service completed, new detachable subframe installed, and they delivered my new wood chipper. Obviously I've been busy ever since!

I uploaded 3 pictures of the the new detachable portion of the subframe. Close ups of both left side and the right side as well as the 1580 backhoe detached.

You can see the corners that split now have much better re-enforcement.
