Craftman GS-6500 Grass Belt will not tighten up tight.

MY GS-6500 Kohler pro 26 HP grass belt is new , but when I lock in the long rod on the left, the bel is still not real tight. There must ba a way to adjust the middle pullet to make the belt become tighter. The middle pullet is the one that connects to the flat bar that connects to the long spring/rod that lock in place. How and where can you adjust this round pullet or something to make my belt become tighter???? My belt keep jumping off when I may hit some thick grass. Could my belt be the wrong side, a hair or two long????

That is supposed to be the tension pulley. Check to ensure that it has free movement. They do get rusty and bind. I even had a repairman tighten it to tight and it wouldn't put enough pressure on the belt.

Yes this pullet has free tension. I was thinking it has too much free tension. Looking for a way to adjust this pullet, so my belt will be tighter, after I lock in place the long/spring rod .

Yes, not enough tension defeats its purpose.

Sounds like the belt is too long. The tension idler is pretty straightforward. Pull off the spring and see if it pivots freely on the shaft. Don't take this as an insult (because I did this once on this model) but are you sure the belt is routed correctly? I once found an incorrect way to put it on and it would almost tighten up.

It's easy to route it the wrong way, the pulley will move, but it will stop with a little resistance, like cutting grass....
