At the lowest part of your steering column where is meets the deck topside, the is a half moon gear with an adjustment to move it closer to the other connecting part, I hope that solves your problem, It should

And one more place to look is where the steering wheel its self attaches to that shaft, Just wiggle your steering and you will see where its loose and after a few minor tightenings here and there you will have a joy to drive.
I recently bought a Troybilt from Lowes and the steering was loose on shaft, I popped the( looks like a horn button ) and tighten it right up
