Hello,
In the process of fixing a blown head gasket on a B8200 I recently purchased I decide to check the waterpump to be sure the impellor was OK. I have zero experience with Kubota's but figured a blown head gasket can be due to a bad water pump and overheating. In the process of removing the water pump I broke the bolt that extends thru the water pump and front cover into the block. This meant I had to remove the front cover which was fine, but where I screwed up is that I didn't take note of the orientation of the front crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft. I have the WSM but it mentions nothing about alignment in the removal or installation. The pulley is clearly counterweighted and it does have a dot indicating some form of alignment is required, but the puller I used to get it off mucked up the end of the crankshaft so I'm not sure if there was a dot there or not.

If anybody can give me guidance on aligning pulley to crankshaft I'd be much appreciative. The tractor appears to be around a 1981 model if that helps.

Thanks - Bruce

That should be in your manual under timing.

There is, or was, a corresponding dot on end of one of the splines to align it. Hopefully it isn't damaged too bad and you can find it.

Hello,

LeeJohn - The manual talks about timing the crankshaft to injector pump and camshaft using the marks on the gears, but makes no mention of watching alignment of pulley to crankshaft. In fact I figured out there were dots for this alignment by finding a dealer notification letter from Toro to its dealers talking about D950 vibrations and the need to confirm this pulley alignment.

S Sdoxie - That's the problem. I had to pull the pulley from the crankshaft (including heating it) and it pulled reasonably hard. The puller I used smudged the end of the shaft and now I can't tell what's a dot and what's damage from the puller. I've read that this pulley to shaft spline is very tight which makes sense. But, you think they'd put the marks where a puller wouldn't goof them up. Anyway live and learn I guess.

I had hoped that the pulleys were all put on the same way in relationship to the crank and its main timing marks. But, I can't find any data indicating this relationship.

Thanks for the replies - Bruce
