I figured it out.

It wasn't a
failure of the gearbox, it was a bent threaded rod that was jamming against the fork, caused by hitting against the lower control arm. A little fine tuning with the adjustment tools shown in the picture and it turns freely between the forks again. I just need to figure out how I can cut off about an inch of the threaded rod so it won't
interfere with the lower control arm anymore. The end threads are too banged up to remove the fork.
Cranky will ride again!
AHHHH.......that could be some useful info. Thanks to Highbeam also. I have backed into a tree a few times when using my carry all. And, it was on that side. If I try and crank counter clockwise, I gain a little bit when going back and forth. A bent rod could be the problem. I guess today might be a good day to finally figure out what's going on. It's so icy here that there isn't much else to do. Thanks for the info.
