Crated Jinma Order

It helps to know where you are in the country. Filling out your profile would be a help. There are people all over the country that import these, which one is near you is what you need to know.

With the widespread distribution of the Jinma tractor in assembled and tested condition, through a number of different importers, are you sure you want to buy a crate?

Keep in mind that there is an uncertian percentage of these tractors that will suffer from some type of infant mortality.
Importers deal with that and it is reflected in their price. Odds are you will get a good one, its a fact that most of them are. I have imported about 15 Jinmas this year and "only" have two dead ones (or at least comatose) out of that, now it is true that I will have parts shipped from the factory to repair these, but they are collecting dust until then, I have others that run great and I am selling those but that represents an over 10 percent chance you may have a problem that will render your tractor unusable without some significant repair. I have heard stories of tractors shipped without thrust bearings in the engine, loose injector pump drive gears, and in our own experience, a poor block casting with pinholes in the water jacket and an engine that dropped a valve in less than 11 hours, ruining the head and piston The last one had delivered to a customer and we exchanged tractors for him that is what a responsible dealer does.

If you buy a crate you are your own dealer, yes you save a little money but there is a certain amount of risk I don't mean to be negative but I want you to go into your decision with both eyes wide open, if possible.

Most of the people I posts I see about Jinma tractor problems lately seem to be by crate buyers or buyers from out of state vendors that may not properly test the tractors, possibly because they know they will not see it again.

Please don't get me wrong, I am on record here and elsewhere as being a strong supporter of the Chinese tractors. they do work and they are a bargain. The dealer makes a huge difference.

You could buy an assembled Farm Pro 2425 from a dealer for around $6,500, it is the very same tractor as a 28HP (HP is rated at different rpm so the same engine is used for differen HP classes). What will the crated version cost, including all expesnses?

I have been a dealer for FArm Pro tractors for over a year. Sure I could buy them cheaper by importing directly but at the end of the day, I like the fact that I buy ready to sell tractors backed by a company with the resources to stand behind what they sell.

Prior to Homier lowering the market price structure, buying a crate tractor saved a signifiant amount over what the chinese tractor dealers had been asking, but I'm just not sure that is the case anymore.

That said, members of this board as well as the Chinese tractor owners association site (myself included), will always try to help you regardless of the source of your tractor.

You asked for advice and now you have mine its probably worth at least half of what I am charging for it.

Best of luck whatever you decide!

bluechip spelled it out 100% on the money. (and i thought the info. was pretty cheap!) i guess some never learn, and some just yearn for aggravation---all the hassles of assembly, headaches and waiting on parts, just to try and keep a dealer from making a profit for all the work and money invested. just hope you don't get one in with a frozen block, warped head, loose rod cap, and on and on------in other words, listen to what b/chip said, and go buy a tractor!!
that's assembled and done, WITH A WARRANTY /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Find out how old it is before purchasing. If its been laying around for several years (here or in China), it could be a bugger to start.

News Rep:

Ive been there done that, back then the prices were about the same, (3.5 yrs back) I got mine and 4 other tractors with deals to sell 2 of them out right with support form the 2 gentelmen we got our 4 tractors, I had HOPED to have the 3rd one sold prior to having to front the hole bill but I didn/t so I ended up assembeling 2 my self, (with help from my brother on the 2nd one the first I did 100% by my self, but with a great shop to work in too!) It wasn't bad, but remember I have access to 10K lb fork lifts and over head cranes, after doing it that way I do not think I would want to assemble one with out a great garage!

It took me 8hrs for the 2nd one with 4 hrs. help by my brother. that was WITH a FEL. also the full go over on all the bolts nuts and hardware as on the first one, I blew an O-Ring right away when I raised the 3pt. (bue to a loosely mounted valve!)

anyhow I DID save $ probably over 1K total, and the other 3 tractors also paid my shipping, (my reward for handeling all the paperwork and transporting ect.) getting MY tractor up and running with my FEL was probably a 5K investment, add my back hoe and tiller & mower, I spent almost 10K. still that SAME set up would have been well over 15K even at homier prices, but like I said my biggest savings was fact that I didn't have to pay for the shipping, that cost was paid by the sale of the other 3 tractors.

to do it again, it was a LOT of stress, so it is probably better off to just GET one from farmpro , BOLTON, or NORTRAC depending on WHERE you are. BOLTON does a neat thing by letting a person buy and helps them assemble their tractor, they save $ by doing most of the assembly work and they get the benifit og having a experianced teacher in the garage!, (Not sure if Graham is still doing this or not?)

anyhow fill in you're profile so we can know where you are and perhaps provide some added info as to local places to buy or people who have done this.

Great advice!
Thanks for the info.

I'm still curious.
Does anyone have any experience buying small orders direct from the factory?
Or do you have a favorite importer you like to work with?

The importer will not matter for the issues BlueChip is talking about. Given the price for an assembled Homier, it is not worth the hassle anymore. While the Homiers price has made it less desirable to import yourself, the actual process has probably become harder. Any new Homeland Security processes are probably an exercise in fustration. The EPA forms are definitly scrutinized more today. Even I wouldn't go through the pain and worry again, for the equipment. There is a recurring theme here, best to take note of it.

Oh yeah I'm still doing it. Not as popular as it was last year
but it's still an option. 70% of my sales this year are fully
assembled. Most guys are saying they don't have the time.

Just got a load of 204's, 284's, 354's and 454's in...BTW..

A load of chippers too. Those are really moving, I've only
got maybe a dozen or so left from this load..Those are mostly
going out crate with customer pickup. Every year a little
different. Last year I shipped maybe 20 assembled with only
maybe 5 or 6 crated pick-ups.. This year so far I've only
booked 2 fully assembled.. Go figure.. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
