I have read a lot about ratchet rakes for front end loaders. I am thinking about modifying an old 3 point angle blade by adding a tooth bar. I have a couple of old motor grader blades I'm thinking I can make V shaped cuts to form the teeth. The moldboard on the angle blade already has 2 plow bolt holes. I could make flat steel brakets and bolt it to the moldboard. I would have to shape the mounting brackets to the curve of the moldboard.

The motor grader blade is 1/2" thick. Might be too much for my chopsaw, may have to use a torch to cut the teeth.

I think it would be nice to be able to rip rocks and sprouts out, then windrow them for FEL removal. Is this a crazy idea?

Nothings crazy if it works :confused2: . Someone may have already put one together. Do a search on the forum.

There are serrated edges available for grader blades and loader buckets, so I don't see why a homemade one wouldn't work.

I realize this is very different from what you want to build but you may find this useful. Here are a few pictures of my de-thatcher/land leveler combo thingamajig.. I purchased this from a guy who built it to grade, level and ready his lawn for planting grass seed. He told me the blade came from a grader repair shop. All he had to do was cut it to size. Remove the blade and it works amazing well for dethatching lawns. The blade can be raised or lowered around three inches and the gauge wheels have almost two inches of adjustment as well.

I wish I could offset the blade though.

You guys do know that the ratchet rake can be mounted on a rear scraper blade or scraper box right? I regularly strap mine to my rear blade for the ultimate trail maintaining attachment, I make one pass on each side with it angled in and then one down the center, no matter how bad the trails are beat, they come out perfect every time and I don't have to back up to use it.

Didn't know you could attach the ratchet rake to rear blade. That would add versatility to it for sure. I want something to drag rocks, blackberries, and small sprouts.

I have a hydro top link and it works awesome, only drawback is you have to decide which teeth you are using prior to putting it on, mostly I use the larger ones.

Could you make a miniture version of RR1500 by Deglman Industries ,it will put your roots rocks or what ever in a windrow.
