Anyone out there with a creeper gear on their Grand L series Kubota? I was thinking about this option if I get a new L5040 but wanted to know some things about it. Do you have to clutch to shift it into the creeper range on a GST? Once in creeper range can you then use the glide shift to go up and down in creeper speed or do you have to clutch to change speeds in the creeper range? Its a dealer installed option. How difficult is it to install? If my dealer has never installed one I might ought to avoid it! I was wanting it to go super slow to improve the implement hookups. Thanks!

I asked my dealer about this when I was pricing out my machine 3 years ago. Dealer said that it would require splitting the tractor and the price increase would be astronomical and that unless I had some real unusual need for it that I probably wouldn't get much benefit. There have been only one or two times when I really thought I needed it - when tilling our North field in really heavy, wet clay. So I had to wait for the area to dry out a bit. Otherwise, we have survived.

Wow, that is really something that Kubota offers an option that is dealer installed and requires splitting the tractor. There are some great dealer service departments and some not so great. Splitting a tractor offers an opportunity for mistakes to be made by the not so great ones. I am not sure I would take that chance and am surprised Kubota would.

I don't know about the older models, but the new models have a "cassette" type creep speed. I know little about them, but the brochures imply the creep speed gets "slipped-in". I don't know if "cassette" is an industry term or not but it obviously is in reference to a cassette tape that you just insert. I get the impression that installation is not a big deal. Not as easy as slipping in a cassette tape I am sure! Certainly not a tractor-split upgrade.

The creep speed for the Grand L 5040 is less than $600 retail. For my M it is just over $900. All dealer installed options. I assume this means the factory will not install it if you order it on a new machine.

Looks like the creep speed is not available on HST machines.

If I had to guess, it is a "3rd" range in the hi/lo selector. When installed, it is just 4 more speeds... not a multiplier. I'll have to look at my brochure when I get home. I have the 6 speed main gearbox... and I don't remember if the creep adds 6 low speeds or if it is 4 low.

I'm really curious on the implementation of this now...

It would be interested in hearing more about what exactly a "cassette" mod is to create a creep speed. Does anyone any specifics? Makes sense that HST doesn't have the option. It will creep right out of the box.

My fender has a sticker on it that shows the MPH for each of the gears... including creep (even though i don't have the creep installed).

I have the 6 speed main gearbox and this sticker is unique to it... because it has all 6 speeds listed for MPH. I will look to see if the creep speeds are 4 or 6. This might give me a little insight on the implementation.

Other references on the Internet state 12F/12R speeds with creep with the 4 speed gearbox. For the 6 speed gearbox, the sites state 18F/18R. This backs up my theory that creep is a third position in the hi/low range selector: hi/low/creep.
