are they both supposed to be straight and parallel ? I tried searching some images. some of them actually looked like one of the pulleys was twisted, other were perfectly straight. it has obviously never been broke or welded and the arm is not twisted. it is just welded on the shaft crooked

Generally the YCM48 mower used the straight pulleys. The YCM60 mower uses one straight and one angled, because the 60 uses a larger drive pulley on the deck and the angled pulley better aligns the belt with the larger drive pulley. There may be exceptions to this.
What model tractor and mower do you have?
I can copy the owners manual and email it to you if you PM me.

Thanks winston1 that clears it up. I do try to do searches, but I can never get it narrowed down, always get a lot of results that are irrelevant. I am not to good with technology. Awhile back I had a 4 wheeler ..not made in the USA..and the chain would sometimes just come off, adjustments were correct etc. finally noticed that brackets had been factory welded on crooked for the rear end. was obvious once I found it. bracket was notched correctly and welded on wrong. cut it all out and started over and it fixed it. just wanted to make sure this was not something like that. Thanks a gain all.....

The YCM 60 was never designed to mount on the YM146/GT14.
It had swiveling casters at the front L&R corners and lifted by cables going to the rockshaft of the three point hitch of the YM186 and YM226 tractors.
The YCM60A was re-designed to fit the YM146 and had wheels instead of the casters and raises by solid rods going to the rockshaft of the YM146 or the three point hitch lower arm on the YM186, YM187 and YM226.
There never was a B or C, etc.
