The crop report that came out last week says we are going to have the second largest corn crop in history and the 4th largest soybean crop in history. Problem is everyone I have talked too and from what I have seen with my own eyes I don't think that will happen in most of Illinois. There are a lot of places where nothing grew because it was under water. I walked out threw some corn the other day and found the ear tips like about an inch of being filled out completely. This does not sound or look like great yields to me. I do think we could have fair crops this fall if we can get some more warm weather and reasonable rain fall. I am hoping we do not get an early frost. Our soybeans are needing a lot of summer yet.

I am curious what do crops look like in your area? Is it just the areas I have been in or is all over?

I've read that Indiana will have a bumper crop of corn if the frost holds out. Areas that were flooded out in the early spring drained quickly and were able to be replanted. Frost is now the enemy.

My folks are in N. Illinois, DeKalb, and the few times I have been up there this year don’t look good for the corn and soybeans. Like deere755 was saying, too much early rain and the farmers couldn’t get the fields in. Many fields scheduled for corn had to go soybean and a good number didn’t even get planted.

Around us its just little fields here and there. I doubt I see a field larger than 15-20 acres. They used grow tobacco but I have only seen one or two fields planted during the last few years where as before every field had tobacco. You would see little 1/2 acre plots with tobacco.

This year there was CORN everywhere. Fields that have been fallow for the last few years have corn. There is corn here. There is corn there. There is corn everywhere.

I only know of one farmer that has a combine. So I'm guessing he leased all the land planted in corn.

But midwest standards its not much corn but I have never seen this much corn planted.

Later,
Dan
