I have a CT230 with 160 hrs and am thinking of a 3 point blower this winter, tractor is stored in a building that has no power and no way to keep it warm. Question is how cold can the average CT230 start?

Don't know about a CT230, but my 3054 Kioti is wicked cold blooded; it will start down to about 0* F without the lower hose heater operating, but you'd better have the barn doors open and a pair of shooting muffs on when you try

-15 C is about the tipping point for no-start. Even then, you need to cycle the glow plugs three times.

Make sure you have synthetic in the crankcase.

My ct 225 started when it was around 0 degrees F without problems with no block heater. How cold are you expecting it to be?

Might consider getting a solar battery charger to keep the battery topped off.

I keep a Battery Tender on mine and it starts fine in the cold

Not sure how cold I would even try to, my last yanmar would do -20 if it had to but had a thermostart and decompression devise. I am still deciding on a rear blower which I can do without as I have a vplow on my F250 but some areas I do would be easier with tractor

Do you have any way to get power, just 400-600 watts so a 16 ga cord would be fine, to the building?

If you do than find out your engine model and look at either; 1- Phillips-Temro [Zero Start] or 2- Kat's block heaters. They are far more efficient than tank heaters. They draw less power and heat your block faster.

I've had a block heater in every diesel engine I've owned. My Dodge CTD came with one, my Nissan SD33T in my old Dodge p/u and the Isuzu 2AA1 that's in my Iseki TS1910F I ordered and put them in myself. It's easy to
do and makes life for your engine so much easier. I put them on a timer so it comes on 2-3 hours before and goes off a couple hours after I might need it. Even if an engine WILL start at 0 degrees why put the added wear
and stress on it if it can be avoided?

In your case you could also use a small generator that you'd run for 2 hours before you start the engine, it would be warm as toast.

They start well. I have started it at around 0 a coupe of times. Cycle the glow plugs a couple of times.

Been down to -15F and got a start. Cycled 4 times and she caught. What a racket though. Would not move for 15 minutes, and medium idle. If you can get a hold of a salamander heater that's non powered (think old smudge pot That will help. I have also seen some battery powered portable models on Amazon.

my tractor is a 2010 Ct 230, I live in Northern Ontario, Mine will start at -20 C or -4F, without being plugged in, but I do not recommend this. and it's in a shed without heat, last week it was -42 c or -44 F and it started, but I have the biggest battery i could put in the front and like I said it'sI always try to pluged in, I still don't like starting it that way.
what I want to do next year is install 2 quick coupler on the rad hose, I have an old 1977 Scout international that always start's, its my plow truck. I will also install quick coupler on this scout, couple the 2 vehicle together, start the scout, wait till it is hot, this way the hot water goes from the scout to the Bob cat, then start the tractor and un couple my quick coupler,
,but be careful do this with both machine cold, so couple before you start the donner car

if not for example the motor from the scout will cool down very fast and this could damage my scout,
it's an old trick lumber jacks do around her to start the machines in the bush, but unfortunately they couple when they get to the bush, it warms up their machine very fast but may also damage their vehicles,

In a perfect world I would have a very big garage, so I could keep my equipment in a hot garage.. ah Dreams. I have to get my Minister of Finance to approve, any idea on how I can get HER to say yes to a garage? :).
