CT230 & CT235 HST Brake Pedals

Can someone tell me where the brake pedals are on this tractor ?
I'm in the process of looking for a new tractor and this is one of the things I'm looking at.

They are on the right side.
If you want a tractor with them on the left side you will need to go with the hst 38-41 hp machine.

Can anybody explain why they put the brake pedals on the right side? It makes the brakes useless for turning. I almost did not buy a Bobcat tractor for this reason alone! My old 955 John Deere had them on the left where they belong.

The CT230 does not have independant brakes and probably because of that they put them on the right side. I never use them unless holding on a slope. The hydro pedal makes it impossible to drive and use an indepedant brake anyhow. Even on cruise control if you touch the brakes it will kick off the cruise.

I dont know what year your tractor is , but my '09 ct230 has independant brakes. Two seperate pedals that are bolted together. remove the bolt and they do work independantly.


Like you said though, with the brakes on the right it makes it nearly impossible to ues them, unless you drive with both feet on the right.

Yes, Mine too. I did see that if you remove the bolt they will be independant. Bobcat does tell you in the information brochure that it does not have independant brakes. Their sales pitch is that it has a very tight turn radius anyway.

I haven't needed it much but I found that on my Kioti CK20HST, I could use the "toe" of my boot to hold the left or right brake and then use the "heel" of my boot to press the HST pedal forward and this worked well. It might be the size 12 boot but it is helpful when you want to make a tight turn.

Uncouple the right and left brake pedal. The cruise control is only tied to one of the brake pedals. You can use the opposite brake pedal for tighter turning without cruise dis-engaging. At least that is the way I remember it on my CK30 HST.

If you have ever operated any older gear driven tractor, you will notice the brakes are on the right. I too complained at first about the brakes, seems like they should be on the left with a HST right? Wrong! While driving another brand hst tractor which had brakes on the left, I was just parking the machine and instinctually went to apply the parking brake like I've done a million times on my old ford 3900. guess what, I hit the side by side style hydraulic lever insead and hit the shop wall. After that happened the owner replied, "dont worry, I do it all the time". Both of us grew up driving gear driven machines and old habits seem to be hard to break. If you are not familiar with driving a gear driven tractor, I can see why this seems like an awkward setup.

I believe the brake is on the right simply because the clutch is on the left. If you need to engage the pto while on hill you'll be glad you can clutch and brake at the same time.
