Bobcat CT440
I have a 2 month old CT440. The PTO has always worked fine for my bush hog, but now it has stopped working. From a cold start I can engage the PTO and it will work for a few mins, then it will stop. The tractor functions otherwise fine. Nothing is getting hot around the PTO, I can spin the shaft by hand so it is not binding, and the fluid level is fine. anybody know what the problem might be?

The linkage between the knob I pull and what that goes to? OK, I'll check that.

Sounds like an electrical connection to me. Does it engage every time in a cold start?

So far it has worked every time from a cold start. But after a few minutes of PTO use it stops working.

On my CT225 you can look at the back of the tractor and move the PTO lever to find the linkage...Remove the linkage arm from the lever going into the gearbox (held on by a cotter pin) Shift the PTO gearbox lever to engage it with the linkage disconnected and run the tractor (the light on the dash will not be on but the pto will spin)
This will eliminate the the possability the the PTO linkage is bottoming out on the light switch before it fully engages the gears (very likely your problem) If the PTO is not fully engaged it will pop out and stop working. You will also be able to feel the detent that keeps it engaged to see if theres a problem there.

I hope this helps.

Call your dealer he will need to have it at the shop for this fix.
It sounds like the modulator valve assembly to me.

The Bobcat man came out today. He found that some sort of electronic fuse or jumper or relay (I forget what he said) was toast. We do not have a mid-pto but the tech said the mid pto uses the same part, and our tractor is already wired for a mid-pto so he just used that one, and will bring a new one out at some point to replace the one for the mid-pto. So our rear PTO is now working.

So if he changed a fuse then how did your pto work "from a cold start I can engage the PTO and it will work for a few mins, then it will stop."
I'm confused...when a fuse blows it blows not stop and start working?
I think I would ask more questions to the tech.

Did he give any idea as to why the fuse may have blown?

Or was it a relay? I can understand if it was a relay.

I said a fuse or jumper or relay. Basically some electronic gizmo. Do you sell Bobcat?
