Tractor
cub 1210
After an ice storm i had severe tree damage. I was pulling a large broken limb with my 1210, when the limb caught the ground and the ag. tires dug in. The tractor quit pulling. I unhooked the tow strap and it did make it back to the garage. Took the cover off, and had shearerd a drive shaft pin. Replaced the pin and it will just barely move foward or back. what have i done and can i fix it?

Sort of a guess here that you have a hydro and something in the drive connection from the engine to the hydrostat has broken. Guess there is a pin at the front and another pin at the back. Have you checked them both?

yes it is a hydro. seems that all pins are intact. when you move the lever, it just barely moves.

Does the cub have lever or knob etc. located near the rear end which might have pop out/slide into towing mood.

I'm going on memory that somebody said they had a pin that looked good, but had actually sheared on a Cub. Can you tell if the input shaft on the hydro is spinning at the same rate as the shaft that carries power to the hydro?

Another possible thing--at least on the older IH cubs, there is a linkage on the side of the hydro that moves to control the F and R on the hydro as well as the speed. If this is your setup, is there anything interfering with this linkage?

it seem that drive shaft is spinning normal, when motor is off you cant spin the shaft without pumping the motor. as for the linkage, everything seems to be clear. when you first start it, it will pull but after a few minutes it stops.

Have you tried posting your question on IHregistry.com?

I can't think of anything else at the moment. Sorry.

got the old thang going again. would you believe it was a clogged hydro filter. huh! guess i should keep up with upkeep. Thanks for all the input.

Glad to hear you figured it out and it wasn't internal to the hydro.
