My 1325 has recently started having problems turning to the right. Upon closer examination, it appears that either the gear on the end of the steering column or the gear that it comes in contact with (not sure what that one is called) has some bad teeth wear allowing the two to slip against each other. I can't seem to find any parts list on the internet and certainly no service manual diagrams on the web.

Anyone know:
1. What these parts are called?
2. What they might cost?
3. The process for getting them off?

Any help would be appreciated.

OK, so I found out that the gear on the end of the steering shaft is the pinion gear and is about $7 and the other gear is called the bevel gear and is about $32. Labor will run about $100 to install.

Does anyone have a service manual that can help me determine what is involved in replacing these. The budget is a little tight right now and I would like to avoid the $100 if possible. I have the gas tank off now so I can see the gears, but am unsure as to what all has to come out in order to get the bevel gear off the shaft it is attached to.

Anyone??

If you cant get a manual from cubcadet.com, try eBay. Also take a look at any bushings/bearings that hold the steering shaft steady, they may be warn as well. I don't think replacing any of it would be too difficult a job. It's not hard to rack up a $100 labor charge at any shop these days.

I replaced those gears (and there were some bushings) on my craftsman POS. I could only turn 1 direction. It was actually quite easy to change out. Can't tell on a CC as I don't own one yet, but I wouldn't think it would be extremely different.

I had to remove the hood and fuel tank on mine and a few other bolts here/there, but it was straight forward. I didn't have a manual - wasn't interested in buying one for a junk mower.

Thanks everyone.

I found a great resource for parts with nice, readable diagrams at: http://www.partstree.net/parts.asp

They have parts and diagrams for allot of major brands.

I think I will go ahead and get the parts on order since they will be needed regardless of whether I figure it out or the repair shop does it. It seems doable with the diagram of all the bushings, washers, etc...
