I have an Ariens 1028 which is a great walkbehind, but was considering selling it for a snowthrower attachment for my 2180. My dealer is telling me it does a good job with snow and slush, but its a three fan as opposed to my Ariens which is 4 fan. It is however 42" wide where my Ariens is 28". I should be able to do my driveway in 15 minutes as opposed to 30 minutes. But, at $1200 plus weights, I'm hesitant. I like the idea of using my tractor for all my yard needs and saving some space with a separate unit. Anyone have one for a 2000 series and how well do they work?

Wiggles,

My advice?? BUY IT! It has been arguably the best attachment I ever bought. I used one since 1999 on my 2135 (against the dealer's advice...said it would "wreck" my machine...then he tried to sell me a new tractor! [yea, thanks...buh-bye!!!]). The 2135 handled it perfectly...my driveway is 80 ft long, 2+ cars wide, and is a 10% uphill slope.

Anyway, I sold the tractor this year and kept the blower for my new 2544.
On my 2135, I used wheel weights, tire chains, and a homemade counterweight that mounted to the bagger bracket (Sold the bracket with the bagger on the 2135...still looking for a used bracket for my new machine!!!)

BEWARE...if you buy a new one, you'll have no problems. If buying used, BE SURE to get the direct drive model (has a driveshaft from the gearbox to the back of the auger cage). The earlier ones had a newfangled belt drive system that was nothing but problems. You want the model 341.

Regards, and good luck!

I think the overall design of the unit is more inportant than the number of vanes on the impeller. The single stage JD blowers we used on our Old 110 and GT262 threw southtowns snow/slush/ice & rocks ( /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) like a sunov-a-gun. A good walk behind unit will run more than $1200 these days. If it takes you 30min with a good sized ariens, an attachment would be nice for you. I just dunno about the quality of the CC 2000 series thrower attachments. The shell, shoes and scraper on them looks just like my light-wt yardman slip & slide behind /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.
G/luck

I have the earlier model snowblower with the belts. Buy the the newer model with the driveshaft. If I work mine too hard it'll eat the belt up. One cheap way for weights is to fill the wheels with windsheild washer fluid and use tire chains. I have a 500 foot drive plus an area in front of a 3 car garage. Hope this helps.

I have a 42" 2 stage snow thorwer and weights and chains for sale. The snow thrower was used for one CT winter. I would keep it (because it was great) but my driveway is too small and the machine is over kill. If you are still looking let me know maybe we could work a deal.

mrhall,

Not sure if you are interested in letting the weights go separately...

If so, what type are they?? (wheel weights, weight rack on back of machine), and what size machine are they for? I live in Westchester County, NY and travel regularly to Westerly, RI, so pickup wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks!

Mrhall - interested in your thrower. What model was it on? What County are you in?
