cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

Just had my cub serviced by a shop and they replaced the trans filter and the engine filter and oil. When running the cub I hear a grinding and kick when going forward and reverse then after 5-10 minutes doesn't move at all. Whats going on? Couldn't call the shop because there closed on weekends.

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

I wouldn't run it any more until they have a chance to check it out. I'm not familiar with the 2135, but on my 3240 I had two people tell me to use the wrong fluid for the tranny. Both were dealers. Hopefully they didn't put the wrong fluid in yours! Just a thought. Seems kind of strange that they just serviced it and now you have this problem. Assuming you had no problem like this before, in my mind it has to be related to the recent service.

I'd be on their doorstep when they open Monday morning! I'm sure they will make it right. Keep us posted, good luck!

Yeah I never had a problem at all until now. Also I noticed this morning that the trans filter said fram. Do they make filters for cubs. Looks like to me that shop put on a car filter.

A lot of filters interchange. I would be more concerned that it has a Fram filter... that is one of the last brands I would use - just my opinion. I seems that the dealer would use a CC filter? (Or whoever makes them for CC)

Was it serviced by a Cub dealer or just some lawn mower shop?

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

Was your 2135 having any problems prior to having it serviced? I would first verify proper oil level in the transaxle, if that's okay, find out what your shop put in it. Unless they put corn syrup in there, It's unlikely even the 'wrong' oil would cause issues so soon. Also run that fram p/n on the fram filter wesite to make sure it's a hydraulic filter (HF) & not an lube oil filter (LF). Again, even using an engine oil filter shouldn't cause problems right away, but you should only use a hydraulic spin on filter in this application. Hopefully you get this worked out ASAP!

I ran my 1450 1100 hours using Fram car filters on the hydo with no problems. I would be more suspicious of the fluid used.

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

Another really simple thing to check is make sure the transaxle bypass lever is not engaged, or even partially engaged, allowing the trans to freewheel.

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

I checked the bypass lever. I tested it yesterday and whats happening is the cub will be ok for 5-10 minutes then it turning left it starts to loose speed. Thats when I hear the grinding. Also noticed that at full revs it worse if I slow it down its not as bad. Or if I go up a small hill it does it. This never happened before it was serviced. Right after the shop dropped it off it started happening. I already stopped payment on the bill. **** it was 217.00 dollars. Another thing I did was remove the belt that runs the blades it still does it. It does sound like the bypass lever is out of wack but Ive tried every position on the lever. What really gets me is this thing never did this before. I already used the mower 3 times before it was serviced. I'll find out today what the shops going to do about it.

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

I wouldn't think the filter brand is a problem. I'm not an expert here, but I would think if the filter was a problem, it would act the same way all the time. The fact that it runs for a while then starts acting strange leads me to think it is the fluid... And, the fact that this dealer went to the trouble of finding a non-oem brand filter says to me that they could be trying to cut corners. I wonder if they also tried to find a non-oem replacement for the tranny oil? Did you check you manual to see what kind of oil it is supposed to use? Some use regular 20W50 or 15W50 motor oil (so I have heard), but some, like mine, use special tranny fluid from Cub Cadet. I'm not sure you can get it anywhere else.

Like I said before, I'd be standing at the front door when they open up this morining. Everyone makes mistakes. Hopefully they didn't make a big mistake here, and if they did, I sure hope they make it right with you! Good Luck!
