Love my new Cub. It seems though that the front headlights are on all the time. Have not been able to find a switch to turn them off. My guess is that it is a safety feature. Has anyone found a way around this?

Thanks
David

Its a safety system, kinda like Daytime Running lights on some cars/trucks.

I dont recommend you altering your system.

Yep same thing with my 2005 cub 2544. Kinda reminds me of my walmart yard machines /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif! Only way around is is 1) wait for the bulbs to blow. 2) Pull the bulbs out. 3) Unplug & neatly tape off the lamp wiring. It really doesnt hurt anything, or rob power by having them on all the time, other than looking goofy on a sunny day. Replacement lamps are about $1/ea at auto parts stores. I don't remember the p/n off hand, but they are a standard automotive lamp.

Hello: Yes you could safely redo the wiring to make the lights able to be turned off. Trace the wiring harness to the bulbs, Find the hot wire with a test light with the bulbs removed and the engine at idle. Then you'll need to find in the harness where the left and right headlight bulb hot wire are joined together. right before that junction cut the wire and run a wire back to the dash where you want the switch. then run another wire back from the switch to the original wire opposite where you attached the other switch wire. Whollaaa!!!! you now have switchable headlights. If you have tailights you could do some more tracing and make them switched on the same switch. Only be sure to use wire NO lighter than the factory wire and a switch rated at 30 amps. Hope this helps, Justin. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good call Justin. Adding a nice rocker switch or toggle would be an easy mod. Cub would probably frown upon it in regards to any warranty issues, but that would depend on how your servicing dealer wanted to handle it. You could easily 'undo' that mod anyway if you tie in with the spade connectors. The only evidence would maybe be a small (switch) hole in the dash!
