I have a Cub Cadet 125 tractor with blown K301. My fault. Ran it too far along wear and tear as a smoker. Piston broke and it cracked the cylinder. I got myself a good block and going to swap parts along with new psiton, rods, valves, etc. So here's the thing..... going online is freaking me out looking for good parts. I would like to avoid cheap aftermarket parts such as the Ebay entire rebuild kits for so little money. If I could stay with genuine Kohler parts, I will. I also will consider good aftermarket piston and rod if needed be. I'm understanding some people don't like certain aftermarket parts, so therefore I'm weary. As I read online, certain pistons definitely needs a compatible rod and can't use the old
So here's the thing... would somebody point me the way to the good and avoid the bad if not genuine Kohler part? What is this Mahle (spelling???) piston that requires a compatible rod. I have to bore this new (old) block to .020 over. And I know I should have piston in hand before when I take the block to machine shop.
I'll appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks
