How do I adjust the linkage on the HydroStat tranny? Is this tranny hydraulic or gears?

Does is say "AG" or "HS" on the sides? AG= auto-gear which is a gear drive, HS = hydrostatic. Best way to explain how to adjust the linkage w/out a manual is; remove the deck, crawl underneath, work the forward/rev pedals with your hand and watch how the linkage works. There is a jamb-nut adjuster on the linkage. Remember, with hydrostatic drives there is one linkage. What you gain in forward speed, you will loose in reverse speed (and visa-versa).

Thank you. It is an HDS. I may have something like pump problems then because the forward speed is ok, not real fast and if I lose much it will be creeping. Is the pump replaceable without tearing open the transaxcle?

Oops.. Yup, I should have typed "HDS" not "HS". I'd think if you've got strong forward drive (regardless of speed) with no undue noises, the hydrostatic drive is fine. Have you done an oil and filter change on the trans? These can be sensitive to filter type. You might want to make sure the filter is OEM. They are around $12. 15w40 motor oil works perfectly in the trans. I don't think the hydro drive on the aluminum housed rears is a separate component, it's all one pc, but I am not overly familiar with those. The 2K series with the cast iron rear have a 'bolt-on' hydro drive made by Hydro-Gear Corp.

Thanks Joel for your help. I will try the oil change. I will use the 15w40, we have been using 20w50. There is no noise at all in the rearend.
