Found a brand new 2004 CC2521 for $3095 with a 44" deck and wondered if it is a deal worth pursuing, or perhaps...

List price on this unit is $3899 but that is with a 48" deck. That is about 79% of your dealers asking price. I got my CC Z-Force for 82% of list price as a season end deal, but it had the correct deck on it.
Unless you prefer the 44" deck, maybe you could get him to put the correct deck on the machine for that price.

I had looked at the GT2521 and my local dealer over the phone told be he could sell it for $3400. If you can get it for $3095, thats a great deal. Thats a lot of tractor for the price. The 3000 series are great tractors as well, but IMO, if you are going to be using it for mowing and small chores around the house I think the 2521 will do everything you need for less money.

There is a world of difference between the two machines. For an $1,800 difference there is a lot to be had between the two models. If you dont need it then thats fine, the price point the 3204 is being offered is excellent as well. No other machine in the market place offers as much at the price...think about it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Vegi garden (tilling area) 40'X100'
The rest is trees and flower beds
Walk behind stuff won't work for me I need a ride on with tiller capabilities

I agree Duc... but for what he needs to do with it, I'm just not sure I would spend the money on a 3000. Like I said, I think that both are fine machines, I would just be careful of buying more tractor than neccessary.

Many thanks, all of the information in all of these posts is really great. Your thoughts on spending/buying more tractor are an added plus. The 2521 seems a little more in league for my needs but I agree that the 3000 is an awsome machine for the money. The last piece of this puzzle is to compare a Deere 318 with the Cub Cadet 2521 as they would be priced about the same. The 318 offers extras but it is used so...

I am not real familier with the JD 318. But one thing I am is very picky about my stuff. I would MUCH rather have a new machine than a used one. If the 2521 will do what you want it to, I don't think you could go wrong. Buying new, you know what you got, you have a warranty, you maintain it, you know how it's been treated... and so on. Unless the JD offers something that is really important to you, I'd go the CC route. Just from what I've read, the CC GT2521 would do everything you want and then some. I think CC offers the best bang for the buck. Strong engines, shaft drive, heavy frames, etc.

Thanks for this input. I have to agree with your ideas on new versus used. One added question that has come up concerns engines. The 2521 uses a Briggs & Stratton whereas the 2523 uses a Kohler. I have heard that the new B&S's with the pressurized systems are as good but cost less. True of false I don't know does anyone have any input on this issue?
