I have seen similar postings about this problem and solutions that suggest that some plastic bushings may be worn as to cause the issue. I got on Partstree tractor parts website and for my tractor(3184) they don't list any plastic bushing, they do last a cub cadet 941-3073(replaces 741-3073) and a 741-3074, but they call both of these bearing, flange, is that what you guys were referring to?I don't mind ordering psrts, just want to make sure I order the right ones. Thanks John

Not sure on the part #'s but it's the small plastic bushings on the forward & reverse shaft. There are some brass bushings too, but what you need are the smaller plastic ones. Also if you jack rear end up on starboard (right as you're sitting) remove the right rear wheel that's jacked in air.
(the left rear wheel can remain on the ground). There's a forward/ reverse travel speed adjustment. The faster you adjust to go in reverse the slower forward speed. And visa versa. Usually you can tell if the bushings are bad by pulling up on the pedal that's moving it too slow. If it's the bushings it will speed up.
Another common problem is the gas tank grommet the line goes in. You'll know it's bad when you can only put only a little gas in without it running out. Good luck the 3000 series Cubs are diffidently worth repairing.

Thanks for the reply, for several months now to go faster in reverse, I had to actually pull up on the forward pedal while depressing the rearward pedal. I did this by fabricating a puller out of flat stock. I planned on working on the forward reverse issue after the mowing season was over and before I put the snowblower on as I assumed to do any major repair besides adjusting the play on the reverse pedals 2 screws, would require the deck to be off. Looks like I may be doing it sooner. The part numbers I mentioned appear to be the only three non metallic parts that would have a tendency to wear, what are actually called bushings appear to br made of metal and most likely don't waer like the plastic parts. You don't have to take the deck off to adjust the forward/ reverse travel adjustment. It does help though when replacing the bushings

I have looked through the shop manual you provided and I didn't see anything about the problem we were talking about except towards the end, it mentions adjust the linkage. Am I missing something?

No, that is the only manual I can find. The parts diagrams from parts tree should show the bushings you need. The neutral adjust switch does have some leeway in either direction though. You can adjust it a little more toward the reverse to get some more reverse speed. This will however slow the forward speed somewhat. Make sure it still hits neutral when released though. You can tweak it and find a happy medium till bushings are installed. Sent from the mountains

Here are pictures from an old post of a modification that I made to my 3235 which helped gain a little reverse speed.

I like the way you think. Looks like a solid fix! With as expensive as the 3000 series tractors were, you'd have thought it would have been designed better than the cheap plastic bushings rubbing against metal.
