I have a CC 3204 and have to do a lot of backing up when I mow. I have gotten very tired of having to continually turn the PTO on after backing up. Does any one know how to disable this feature so the mower will stay on when backing up??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Turning the mower deck on and off surely is going to reduce the life of the belts.

Where is the BLASTED switch located???%$@#%??? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I must be sooooo stupid. I have delt with this $%@#^ thing for 2 years and have to mow 8 acres every week.

I have a New Holland LS45 and it offers a key under the seat that lets me disable the anti-reverse mowing feature. I can't believe CC does not offer this on their higher end tractors.

Any help would be great. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks in advance.

Its real simple (and probably best when the deck is off), just follow where the reverse petal contacts a contact swtich. There would be a metal tab, that just has to be moved...
You own the machine, so do as you feel is right for you - safty mavricks aside /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Its nice a fast in reverse as well !!

Thanks for the info ducati996.

I saw some other threads that said the same thing but just wanted to make sure.

Some units are different than others.

I have been mowing since I was 8 back in 1978 and can't stand all the BS safety stuff they have made consumers deal with. Don't get me wrong. Always Safety First!!! I believe it all because of the lawyers. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Just some insite:

My first tractor was and I still have it. A 1965 IH Cub Cadet 122. Truck type Transaxel, weighs a ton and nothing can stop it less a redwood stump. Solid cast iron frame hence the ton.

Now they press out the frames and they flex and suffer from metal fatigue after some years. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif They safety them up to the point of insanity. The only saving grace is that the engines have gotten more relible and easier to service. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That's my $0.02.

Again thanks for the info and my your deck never clog and your blades stay sharp.

UberDog,

The good news is you will not have any frame flex with the 3204. I have an older 125 and the 3000 's frame is a stronger gauge (9 gauge) then the 125. The rear is beefier on the 125 of course but its close enough /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif of course I miss the cast iron grill of the older machines !! you can ram into something with no fear of damage....today's model it would crinkle up and be totalled - so i wont do that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif The power steering, hydrolics, cut quality, weight, shaft attachments, comfort make it a drastic improvement that shouldnt be minimized.
The power that the 3000 series has is so much superior IMHO. I'm cutting the thickest and healthiest grass i have ever seen, without the machine slowing down. I never had that ability with the 12.5 Kohler. But I know my new Kohler will not last as long as the 3000 plus hours of my never been rebuilt Kohler from 1969 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I grumbled about the switch on my 2004 3235 and disabled it as per the instructions given you. Actually MTD did wise up and the 2005 models have a key position that will allow reverse mowing until the next startup.

Thanks Bob -

It would seem that a key position would have been thought up by MTD. I mean do they do any research before they release a product.?.

Again thanks for the info.

Cub Cadet did it as a safety feature. If you drop the deck and put the rear tires on car ramps use a pair of needle nose plyers just pull back on the tab and it will work all the time.

Yeh..these companies do stupid things and call it in the name of safety..I remember when I was working in a major automotive repair station. You could no longer buy a "drop light" with a on/off switch in it.(said it was unsafe!.) I suppose it was safer having us open the guard and partially unscrew the HOT! bulb to turn it off.
