Welcome to the forum.
Some forum sites won't like mentioning how to disable safety devices, and this one may be one of them.
I'm of the mind that if you can't figure out how to disable it, then it shouldn't be disabled. Sorry to be blunt on my part.
It is just a switch, that activates when put in reverse. Track it down, and do what you think is right. :D

While I don't want to come off as the anti-safety guy, I think this "safety device" is pretty dumb and was probably put in place to protect similarly dumb people from their own dumb mistakes.

Not being able to mow in reverse totally defeats the idea of having a hydrostatic lawn mower IMO. As already mentioned, find the switch that causes the thing to shut off, unhook the harness, and figure out if it needs to be normally open or normally closed... When you figure that out, just wire it up so it always stays on.

I did a quick search for you and it seems their could or should be a switch under the tractor with a tab that engages the foot petal linkage... just bend that out of the way... or, so they say.

There have been numerous posts about disabling the reverse switch so I don't know why the sudden worry about safety. My dealer offered to show me how when I purchased my 3235. There is a switch under the tractor operated by the brake pedal. Just bend the operating arm out of the way so the pedal no longer contacts it. That way it can easily be enabled if you want it. I ended up removing my 54 inch deck to get a better view and access to the switch (not the most fun job).
I have many trees, shrubs, etc. to mow around. The constant disengaging and reengaging of the deck was not only a pain but certainly not good for the PTO.

I have mine disabled...as soon as the mower lands on the property. I agree that it is dumb, and that Gov't is trying to meddle in our lives. That should be our biggest concern of all, in so many ways.

I got kicked off a different site for asking how to disable the reverse mowing safety switch. I also have mine disabled as soon as it gets on my property. I think the switch is pretty stupid.

I think the switch is pretty stupid.

In defense of the government and manufacturers some operators are pretty stupid also. That said, I don't think it is possible to design safeguards against some of the incredibly stupid things some owners do.

Before anyone takes offense let me state that the type of people that participate in this forum are not likely to be what I would classify as stupid. In fact I think we all are here to learn to operate and maintain our equipment the very best we can.

While I would hope that everyone here is above average in intelligence and attentiveness to operating equipment I think we have all had lapses where we suddenly realize "wow, that could have been dangerous". Personally, most of my 'wow' moments happen when I have been cutting wood with a chain saw all weekend and suddenly realize I just made a potentially dangerous maneuver when I get too complacent about what I am doing.

My point is that some of the safety features might possibly prevent a 'wow' moment from becoming an 'oh no!' event. I agree that many of the safety features can be a real pain in the behind - especially when they interfere with normal operation or fail all together. I also agree that we should have the right to pick and choose the degree of safety features we want enabled on our equipment. I am simply suggesting that anyone thinking about disabling safety features think hard about why they are there and be very careful at all times when operating power equipment.

I think I am a careful equipment operator but I still find occasional lapses in judgment. I just checked and I still have five digits on both hands and both feet. I want and intend to keep it that way and I hope everyone else does too! Work safe!

Not a unreasonable request. Many of the newer Cub lawn & garden tractors have a key position that allows you to mow in reverse, no disabling required. Called "revtek" Of course they have a warning associated, no children around, etc. In it's defense, it is from the Gov't mandated safety police, along with engine cutoffs when you get off the seat, PTO engaged, etc.
And it was a pain when I owned my older Cubs, not to mention the increased cycles on the PTO clutch....
