Cub Cadet 5252 mufflers on ebay

Just wondering how you like your 5252 and if you have experienced any of the major problems some of them have. I bought one off Ebay back around the end of 2009. I have not mowed with it yet. I had to sink $750 into it so far. The original serial number plate was removed so I do not know the year. It was not advertised on Ebay with the year. the hour meter was missing. I think it might have been an attempt to cover up how FEW hours it has on it rather then how many! Anyhow, I will start moving in a few weeks. If it holds up I am happy - if I keep sinking $1,000's into well, I shot myself in the foot when I bought this tractor used. Will Cib cover anything under warranty if you buy a used Cub?

I believe Cub goes by the inservice date, it transfers with ownership.

I've also have a 5252 at about 350 hours. It had the common throttle problem, (won't stay wher you set it) that was repaired under warranty.

It's been a good tractor!

I found out that the only warranties that are "officially" transferable for Cub are for the Cub Yanmars.

My 5252 is great. I have FEL and Mower. Worked the dickens out of it over the past 6 years and only minor repairs. Its starting to wear now, things like front wheel bearings need replacing etc due to heavy loader work. I have no complaints and now all the great attachments are starting to show up on ebay and other places at firesale prices. I bought a snowblower, front hitch and front pto kit from ebay for $1300, picked up the front blade locally for $100. There's a yanmar front blade with hydraulic angle on ebay right now with about a $800 reserve. I'm sure the mount could be adapted to the 5000's with little effort though it does need the FEL hydraulic attachments.

Speaking of mufflers, has anyone tried removing the under the hood muffler and just replacing it with one of those standard tractor mufflers that point up? My 5252 has no FEL so clearance is not an issue. I just want something that will dissipate heat better. I have a cab on my tractor and after a while the plastic dash gets so hot, you could probably fry an egg on it.

I saw one where they cut the headers from a regular cub muffler and welded them together into one pipe using a small length of about 2" tubing. then they got one of the older cub mufflers that last forever and stuck it out the side pointing downward. Looks great and they don't ever get bothered with having to buy $100 mufflers that crack immediately upon installation. All you would have to do is the same thing only angle the header up after it exits the hood, then attach the muffler. You would have to be sure to get it high enough so you don't asphyxiate yourself with exhaust fumes.
