I posted with a similar problem back in 2009, and found the solution here. (Thank you to the tractor owner who even posted pictures!)
Back then it was replacing the glow plugs, glow plug relay, the 60 amp and 50 amp fuses, and the relay controller. Once everything was replaced, it started up.
Late in June, my Mother had used the tractor for around an hour. She parked it and a bit later she went out to move it and it did a click-click then nothing. It was the same thing that happened in 2009. Or, so I thought.
I ordered all the above replacement parts, installed them when they arrived. Still won't start. The key just slides to start, there's no catch to fire up.
The battery is fully charged, posts clean, and cables secure. Transmission and PTO are in neutral. The tractor is more or less a run-about that my Mom uses. It is in good condition and well maintained (at least I think I do an adequate job). It has less than 400 hours on it, 2000 was the year I bought it for her.
And there are two other odd things going on or not, actually. The high beam lights work but low beam lights don't come on. And the right turn signal isn't working. I've replaced fuses, checked the wiring, and bulbs/lamps. Still can't find out what's going on with the electrical system.
I'm not a mechanic, but am very careful when I do maintenence on the tractors and managed to keep the bigger tractors running but when the Cub quits I'm always in a quandary because it always seems to be an electrical problem.
So, could it be the key switch? The starter? The only other thing that I need to replace because I don't like the wear is the aluminum contact between the glow plugs. The aluminum has grown very thin and sort of widened. There is still contact but perhaps not enough? Could it be that one of the new fuses is bad?
