I'm still trying to find a tractor for maintaining my 20 acres that fits my budget. I had been thinking old ag tractor but have been keeping an eye out for used 4x4 compact tractors.

I came across a Cub Cadet 7260 which is 4x4 but has gear transmission. It has a 26hp Mitsubishi 3 cylinder diesel. He wants $8000 for it with a finish mower.

Any thoughts on this model? Would it be big enough for me to brush hog with? I would really prefer a HST I think as it would be nice to pick different speeds while mowing without having to come to a stop to switch gears. But, this one seems to be in great shape and is about what I would want to spend.

I would want to use it for snow removal in the winter also. Probably a back blade but possibly a snow blower also. I wonder if there are front mount blowers available for this. Otherwise, I'll just buy a rear mount unit if this is big enough to power one and just make sure I do my neck warm ups before snow removal. :)

Thanks!

I've got a 7254 which has a Kawasaki gas engine. The tractor itself runs great but the 60 inch decks on the 7000 series cubs are noted for throwing belts. Do an internet search on this. I junked mine but still use the tractor for hauling a sprayer and firewood. I originally wanted to add a FEL and backhoe to it but pricing was such that it made more sense to buy new than add on to an older tractor. May have thought differently if it had that Mitsubishi diesel.

The one I'm looking at has a 3 point finish mower. So, no belts to worry about but that's good to know.

Here is the tractor data info on it:
TractorData.com Cub Cadet 726 tractor information

From searching around the internet it seems to get pretty good reviews. Not as much info available though as other makes/models so I'm worried it's a little bit of an uncommon model. So, I would think that effects parts availability. Plus, less people to get info from in the internet if I come across a problem with it.

Mine's the size smaller but the frame and tractor in general is built strong. My biggest gripes are the non functional MMM and the loud hydro transmission. You're looking at a geared transmission and a proven mitsu engine used everywhere. If I had that I would have been tempted to buy a loader and backhoe attachment instead of the new LS. FYI, I sometimes use a 4' brushhog on my smaller one when I don't want to bother taking the backhoe off the LS. It handles maintained pasture and trails fine. The more powerful one you're looking at would handle a small hog through brush without a problem.

I did a whole lot of bush hogging on the old L2550. It was geared and I think it had 29 engine hp.

Also if you ever see a front mount snowblower for a 7000 series, let me know- I've been looking.

I've got a 27 engine HP Yanmar. I have a 5' bush hog & a 6' rear blade for grading & snow removal. It does the job.
