I have searched the internet, searched this forum and looked in my owners and parts manual and can not find a routing for the drive belt from motor to deck. I had an idler pulley bearing go out and it chewed up the belt. I replaced the idler and i got a new belt from the dealer and can not figure out how to rout this s.o.b. If if i was 100% sure that i had the right belt, it would be a little easier, but i'm not. I may have to go back to the dealer (50mi) and look at one on display if i can't get some help here.

My RZT50 owner manual covers this under "deck removal", including a clear diagram - have you looked for that in your manual? Steve

Here's what mine looks like - if your manual doesn't help, this might...

OK, another thing to check - on mine, all three idlers are FLAT bottomed to run on the BACK side of the belt - you might see if your idlers are that way too - unless one or more are a VEE bottom, they'll be for the flat back side of the belt. Good luck, I hope this helps... Steve

Finally got this thing up in the air where i could see what i'm doing. I think i have the belt routed ok now, but one of the v pulleys is a little high and the belt is not tracking straight. Just doesn't look right. Still working at it though, but i hate to f up a $60. Drive belt so i'm taking my time.

OP - if you don't have manuals/part lists for your machine that might show that belt routing, look for the machine's ID Plate which will carry the full model number, serial number and mfgr's name. With that info, google "MTD manual archives", enter requested data and d/l free manuals/lists offered - may help. Good luck.

Ok, leveled deck and it lined up the pulley better. Once you get this machine up in the air where you can see what you are doing, the belt routing is fairly obvious, but i still don't see why they don't diagrahm it out for you. thx everyone.

Yeah, you saw the diagram from my RZT50 Oper. manual - they're either getting lazy, or they hired some new still-wet-behind-the-ears engineer that thinks "since Kevlar is bullet-proof, that belt will never wear out - they don't need that diagram any more" - been there, tolerated that (not)...
