Cub cadet Model??

Good afternoon all: I have a question for you folks. this past week my cousin and I pickup a Cup Cadet and side of the hood you can make out the model as a 124?? The tractor is a hydro with and kohler 10hp in it. Everything is orginal, When he went to the local cub cadet dealer they said that the 124 would have been a 3 speed not a hydro, can anyone tell me how to find out what model this tractor is so my cousin can order the correct decal as he is going to restore it back. The tractor run like a top and it been sitting in a she dfor 3 yrs. Again any help would be greatly appreicated.

10HP The 104 was a gear model, the 105 was hydrostat.

12HP The 124 was a gear model, the 125 was hydrostat.

Sounds like your friend has a 105. I believe most of the frame and sheetmetal parts would interchange. Someone may have found a better hood from a 124. Who knows, a lot can happen to a 40-50 year cadet.

You can check the serial # on the tractor and find out what model year etc.. most are located on the back go to the cub site and it will tell you where to check, a lot of the time the engines wont be the original. so I wouldn't check the serial but if you do. kohler will tell you the year and model the motor is. a k-241 is a 10hp and k-301 is a 12hp yours should be one or the other.

A 124 cub cadet has a 12 hp kohler engine in it from the factory......that i know for sure

Lots of times people put in a new or different motors on the tractor. I bought a 1966 cub 122 with a k-241 10hp motor the 122s came with a k301 12hp luckily The 122s and the 102s are the same except for the motors. so I now have a 102 wished is was a 12hp but when the motor got tired I rebuilt the k241 it has all the power I need and uses less gas. There's a serial number on the back of the cub. I had to take off the hitch pin bracket on mine to get to the serial number. you can go to a cub web site and find the info of where to find the serial # and it will also show you the model and year it was made. also if you curious about your engine you can get the serial off it and go to or call the kohler people and they will be glad to assist you. My k-241 came off a 1963 Garden tractor that was only in production for 1 year. Hope this helps.
