when you turn your ignition sw to ON, you should hear a "click" from the bottom of the carb where the afterfire solenoid is energizing to allow fuel into the carb's load circuit. ( that's the one you mentioned you broke the lead wire to ??) . If that solenoid is dead or stuck, your engine will not get enuff fuel to run well.
Check it's plunger for free movement while you have the carb off - if sticky, clean it until free.
Carb - soak overnite in liquid carb cleaner after disassembly. Using magnifying glass and small dia brass wire, probe EVERY orifice in each component, blowing same out first with rattlecan carb cleaner and then compressed air.Clean is the name of the game. Rebuild carb using a fresh rebuild kit - use ONLY new gaskets and valve needles/seats.
Good luck.
