This morning I spoke to a local dealership about possibly getting a 3000 series tractor new from them. The salesguy tells me warranty is two years with the tractor being trailored to/fro for free by them during the first year and only for any warranty-related work.

I get a nice brochure... get home,... look at it... it says warranty is 3/5 years!

The official company web site says NOTHING about their warranties (and I spent almost an hour searching the entire site, wow... to be honest if it were the co I work for which is considerably smaller, both the marketing head and the webmaster would be fired on the spot.)

Can you folks help me understand what is going on? Thanks for any help.

The warranty is spelled out in the owners manual. Ask to see it. I have had a lot of Cub Cadet warranty issues and experience over the past 2 years.

The only spot I saw on the website that mentioned the warranty was on the comparison pages, where it lists for the 3000's : "Warranty 3 & 5 year limited," the same as is stated in the brochure. I would ask the dealer for a full written copy of the warranty before considering buying to see what it actually covers. (This goes for any tractor, not just Cub Cadet.)

See the owners manual or your dealer for the specifics on the warranty. Heres an example from the Series 1000 and Series 1500 book.

3 Years coverage (or 120 operating hours) on the entire machine EXCEPT normal wear items, battery, frame and front axle.

NORMAL WEAR items are covered for 30 days from date of purchase.

Battery has a 1 year pro-rated coverage

5 Years coverage (or 500 hours) on the frame and cast iron front pivot axle.

This is just a quick generalization. See your dealer or consult the owners manual for specific item coverage and terms.......

Thanks Ken does this mean the warranty varies by model and even by dealer?

I was also doing some research on Kubota models and they publish their basic warranty right there on their web site for all to see.

I agree there might be some variances with certain models with any brand, but to be totally honest MTD/Cub's discrepancies and "secret policy" doesn't inspire much confidence! I'm still trying to make sense of it, so thanks for your help.

It should be spelled out in the brochure you got. The warranty on the 3000 series is 3-year or 180 hours limited parts and labor on the whole machine. 5-year limited warranty on the frame, front axle, and drive shaft. Note that pickup and delivery is NOT covered this year by Cub Cadet. In the past it was covered for the first year, but not in 2006. Sounds like your salesman was telling you the old warranty terms.

That being said though the dealer may cover P&D for the first year but that would be a service they offer not Cub. So if that is the case I would want that in writting before the deal was done. Good luck, keep us posted.
