Cub Cadet Z Force 50
Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose the problem with my Cub Cadet Z force 50 mower. An issue started about 2 months ago where it would turn off after a couple hours of mowing. The handles would lock up and it would not go anymore until a "cool down" period after which it would start back up and continue mowing. I am now having an issue with the mower not starting at all (replaced the battery) and also just replaced the starter. I have changed the fuel filter and also removed the fuel shut-off solenoid. At a loss for what to do next. I appreciate any suggestions!

Hmmm, a common denominator. What is the model number off the chassis?

Kvaughan0513,

I could be off base here, but it sounds like the ignition coil has an issue that shows up when enough heat causes expansion and shorts it out. And now its expanded enough to make no continuity at all in its coils even when cold?

The reason I bring this up is that years ago I had a unit that went this route.

Just throwing parts at the problem is not the way to go. Don't understand why you would replace the starter when the issue is the unit stopping after mower for a while.

I see that your engine is air cooled. Have you checked under the fan shroud? Could be a mouse nest or a lot of grass preventing the engine from cooling properly.
