Let me start out by saying I'm a huge fan of Cub products, but have some concerns about their marketing of the CUT products. Other folks who have experienced the problems I'm about to mention can either confirm or deny the accuracy. My problem is that Cub doesn't seem to be able to decide on a make and model in the compact line and just about every year or two, new models are introduced, made for Cub by different companies. I'd be OK with that but I hear about relatively new models thet are already seeing parts in short supply or not available.

If you look at Ford/New Holland, Kubota or many other manufacturers, they develop a product line and build them for years. As a result there is a large installed base and a demand for parts that keeps them from becoming obsolete. I'd like to hope Cub and Yanmar are hooked up for the long haul, but I'm doubtful, because some Finance/Materials guy will find someone to build a cheaper version next year. They seem to be so short sighted.

I bought a Ford 1220 eight years ago. It's comparable to todays TC18. The local New Holland dealer has had all the supplies and parts I've needed since I bought it. Also, many parts/supplies can be bought online in a generic format, because they made thousands of them and because they shared parts with the 1320. 1520, 1620 and numerous other similar models.

If Cub wants to be a player, they better start playing on a level comparable to the leaders in the CUT category.

Just my opinion.

I agree with you OhioGuy, I think they do need consistency throughout their entire compact line. This was one of the reasons I traded my 5234 for the Sc2400. Before I traded I did a little research to kind of address these same questions. From what I was told, Cub Yanmar is a separate joint venture, which is why not all Cub Dealers are Cub Yanmar dealers. I also think its a good sign that they keep expanding their line...I think they have a 45 hp and a 27 hp tractor on the way (maybe someone else knows for certain) I really hope that Cub Yanmar is around to stay, I know I sure like mine.

Curt;

You make a very good point. I would hope Cub is smart enough to realize they could easily turn into a fly-by-night operation if they keep switching vendors...which would ultimately lead to their demise.
And, I would think ending up in bed with Yanmar, with their excellent reputation, that they'd be proposing marriage.
The parts and service are certainly huge byproducts of selling equipment, and the big guyz like Kubota have realized it all along.
I also have it from good authority that Cub/Yanmar is coming out with at least 2 new models next year.....in the 40+HP range. Should be interesting. My inside source is a good friend that owns a dealership, he is quite impressed with the Cub/Yanmar line, so much so he bought one for himself.
I personally might look at one in the future, but have had fantastic luck with the older Cub's and will stay with what I have for now. (5234, 6284, 7532)
perfect example.....three machines, three different engine manufacturers!
I'll finally get to really work my machines as I'm closing on some property in Ohio, instead of sitting in my garage in MI!

Vince - I have to apologize....I let my subscription run out......

I am also impressed with the new Cub line, the SC2400 is at the top of my list, if you look at the raw numbers as compaired to the other Sub Cut it holds it own. Price is good, and features it holds it own and exceeds the others.

I'm not sure what the attraction is of these machines. All the major tractor manufacturers have similar products for similar $$. And as OhioGuy says, those companies are far more likely to have parts available 5-10-20 years down the road.

If Cub/Yanmar is still selling them in 10 years maybe I'll think differently. But they don't have a good track record so far with this kind of product...

It is hard to step into a market that is 30 years old! As a dealer and knowing Yanmar was dedicated to deere for those years the way they were and Cadets desire to be in the market I consider it a good union that will change Cadet to the line they wish they were!

We have seen many changes in the last thirty years as to the players, many have come and gone or was available in different colors which still didn't help. Yanmars desire for a quality product and the desired change in cadets line up should be a plus for both.

We will all know more in twenty years! I know that there are still more to leave with the latest surge of manufacturers.
