I bought a new house with 2.34 acres. Most is finished lawn. There is some trees, not much for hills etc. both mowers are around $3500. Which one to get?

What makes it better? When I search for 2544 I get mixed results. When I search for x300 series I read all good results?

You havent looked far enough the 2500 series has been around for years, plenty of posts in the Cub forum.

I just got back from test driving the 2544. It felt like a nice solid machine, I love the fact its shaft drive. The steering wheel felt like it was in my crotch though, and it didn't have much leg room. Haven't had a chance to sit on the x304 yet. Wonder if it will feel any bigger???

Those two are really quite different. It will most likely depend on what your goals are. The JD with the 4 wheel steer would be a better choice for mowing around tight areas, trees, etc. The Cub is designed to handle more chores than just mowing... like pulling attachments. I've always thought Cub Cadet gives you the most for the money... but both are nice machines.

Make sure its at least a 2006 model - they increased leg room and such on that year

I agree w/ Duc. The 2500 series cubs are without equal at that price point. W/ over 2 acres you might wish you had th bigger deck of a 2550 or 2554. Is the price difference that great between these models?
If you're in the market currently (off season), sometimes you can find some good deals if you call around.

3500 you could get a nice older GT or GX model Deere. Maybe even a 400 series. The older ones are much better in my opinion.
