Cub Cadet LT1050
Two days ago while fertilizing my lawn my Cub LT1050 stopped moving. With the help of this forum and other Internet sites I found out my drive belt had slipped off the pulleys. I then started my two day adventure of replacing the drive belt since the old one was pretty worn. I discovered much help in different forums and YouTube and was able to replace the belt. My problems started, of course, when I went to put everything back together. My biggest difficulty was getting the PTO clutch back on the drive shaft. I couldn't get the key on the clutch to go in the groove on the shaft. I read in a forum where someone had to file the key and the groove a little to get it to slide on. I did this and finally was able to get the PTO clutch back on. Once on I started the tractor and everything seemed fine. The pulley on the clutch was spinning and I went for a short ride and returned to the garage. I put the deck back on the mower, and went off to mow a little. I didn't get more than 50 feet when white smoke started billowing from the grass chute area. It seems to me the PTO clutch is overheating. It was extremely hot when I turned the tractor off. In my mind, this brings up a few questions. Did I tighten the PTO clutch too tight or not tight enough? Did I somehow mess up the clutch when I was fiddling with it to get it back on the drive shaft? Is it a deck belt problem? My deck belt is in good shape and I'm pretty sure it's hooked up correctly, but possibly there's something I'm overlooking? Any ideas or suggestions?

Never mind. I was so tired last night I didn't notice the deck belt was off the right pulley. Put it back on and now everything seems to be working fine. I'm ready to mow!

It's great when you figure out your own problems, isn't it? I"ve done the same with my LT 1050 and usually smell the belt as soon as I hit the PTO and go about 5 feet. Glad you got it fixed.
