dealers now have the option of ordering the same tractors as the box stores, or opting for a slightly more expensive version with several upgrades. The model numbers stay the same, but the Kawaski versions of the LTX1042 and LTX1046 are using a nicer seat, better transmission, and Kawaski engine rather than Kohler. The price difference is about $75 and is worth every penny. We have the old and new models side by side and the difference is huge. They are quiet, and the transmission is so much more smooth.

That is a pretty good move on their part. Its a way to help stem the flow of buyers to the box stores and give the actual dealers a marketing advantage.

I was always under the impression there was no difference between the low-end models, no matter where you purchased them.

At least that's how it's been discussed on these boards for years.

Cub now allows the dealers to have slightly better models compared to the box stores. At least thats how i read Neils post.

I was just about to pick up new Cub from Lowes since the wife works there(10%discout:thumbsup:),guess I'll hold off and try and find somewhere else to pick up one. Quick question does this also apply to the 1054?

Gotcha.

That's pretty sweet. Not that I've ever had problems with my Kohlers, but ~$75 for a Kawasaki alone would be awful tempting!

Any idea what the transaxle upgrade is? Hydro-Gear appears to have whittled down their product line to three transaxles these days; Good, better and garden tractor.
