I purchased an old single row cultivator that needs a bit of work. I am interested in replacing the current straight tips with sweeps and I have been researching and wow, so many choices. Sweep angles, widths and various shapes to choose from is leaving me scratching my head.:confused2: From those that use or have used this implement before what do you recommend for the sweeps? I have never put in a garden before and I plan on putting in a simple garden to learn from, nothing exotic.

I like that. I currently have the reversible shovels in looking at the article. I appreciate the info.

I was seeking the same information you are. Found an original Ferguson brochure on eBay and bought it to post here. (Thank you, J. K0ua, for providing technical assistance.)

Old information but nothing has changed with the years. Much more informative than anything else I found in internet searches.

Harry Ferguson invented the tractor Three Point Hitch and held international patents on same until patents expired in 1955. Ferguson's first U.S. licensee was Henry Ford.

Agrisupply.com has a large variety of sweeps, at good prices too. They also have the correct head bolts needed to bolt the sweeps onto the tines. I have ordered sweeps from them before and have been satisfied.

First thing you need to know is what you want the sweeps to do. Sounds simple but are you just laying off rows, bedding rows or cultivating the rows? You also need to know how wide of rows you will have and how many shanks your cultivator has. That last two come into how wide of sweeps you need.

Realize one sweep over laps the one in front of it a little and as you move from front to rear the sweeps normally get wider.

I would suggest if you have a local shop who sells sweeps and has experienced people go talk with them. I would not suggest walking into Tractor Supply or such, no experience there. kt

If TSC is like my local one, I wouldn't suggest walking in there either. They not only don't carry sweeps but no one in the store even knew what I was talking about.

I am in TSC reasonable often and had never thought of them as place to buy such and had not realized they did not even carry them. lol I have a friend who has a shop a little further than TSC and on anything I have priced there compared to TSC he always beats them plus he is an expert on about anything mechanical. But he does close at 5 PM.
