Currently having a problem with the curl cylinder on my tractor, when you retract the cylinder it will bog the engine to the point of stalling. Its just the curl fylinder, the lift cylinders work fine. Ive switched the lines and tried a different cylinder with the same results. Leads me to believe it is an issues with the valve. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks

I would look at your couplers, sounds like a bad one.

Already switched them for that cylinder with no change

Can you move the bucket manually? If so the the piston may have come off the rod inside the cylinder.

Or, the spool in the valve casting has suffered a failure of some sort, but you should feel that when moving the joystick.

What equipment are we working on?

You cant move the cylinder manually. Its a homemade loader. I suspect its the spool either having a little piece of something in it or just being crap

Could the push rod for the cylinder be bent.

When removed from the tractor and not connected to any hoses, if you cannot move the push rod, something serious is wrong.

You say it’s a homemade loader.......has it been like this from the start or is this something that recently started acting up?

My suspicion would be the loader valve is too small if you are seeing a pressure spike (using a guage on the pump outlet). but Just a WAG.

Just started doing this. My valve is rated for 15gpm while the pump puts out less. I havent put a pressure guage on it yet

My old ford 851 has a paulson loader. It does this too. Do you have a pressure relief on the curl side too?

There is the pressure relief in the 2 spool valve
