Howdy,

I have an L2800 HST that I've owned for a year and a half.

(the following is with the PTO disengaged!!!)
Up until a couple weeks ago, I was able to throttle down to idle, put the parking brake on, and then dismount the tractor with it still running.

Handy for hopping of to move something out of the way, or pick up a rock and through it in the FEL.

Now, when I hop off the tractor, it dies (like I'd expect if the PTO was engaged and the seat down).

It does this most of the time now.

I've tried lifting the seat up as I get up, but it still dies. If the PTO is engaged, I can lift the seat up and the tractor will continue to run.

Any suggestions on where to look? It seems that with the PTO engaged, the kill switch works as advertised (kill if owner dismounts and doesn't lift seat, remain running if owner dismounts and lifts seat).

Thanks, Mike

Mine isn't a HST but anyway my forward/reverse has to be in netural and the shuttle shift has to be in netural and brake on along with pto leaver off which has a little movement so that the pto will be off but the switch not made so I double check that. I suspect that your trouble is with your seat switch based on your symptoms. I should be easy to temporairly bypass the seat switch to check this.

I placed the switch wire over the seat switch (so that the wire held it down all the time) and now the tractor doesn't shut off when I dismount it while it is idling.

Does anyone have any idea why the operator position switch would cut power when the PTO is disengaged and the rider dismounts?

Interestingly, this started happening right after I got the tractor back from its 50 hour service.

The bolded part of the quote is most pertinent.
If that's actually the case...contact the shop that did the service. They may have jumpered or disabled the switch in some way.

It could be the treddel pedal is not in the neutral position, mine will sometimes stick a little in the fwd pos just enough that you can hear it wanting to go fwd.
I zip tied my seat switch closed shortly after I purchased my L2800 two years ago, I know your not suppose to disable any saftey devices...well it was a PIMA..;)
