Talked to a JD mechanic, when he found out i had a 4720 he said to be gingerly changing gears with the left hand handle, the ABC gearing. There is a little fork in there that actually changes the gears to match what speed or power you want. If try to change too energenitically ( sp? translates to using too much armstrong power) the little fork ends can break off. This means the tractor HAS TO BE SPLIT IN HALF to fix. He did not give me a price but i bet it is not cheap. I am not sure if the fwd lever is the same but could be. It was only 2 tractors in 3 years, but just thought i would pass it on.
