MY old rotary cutter deck is just about shot, but the gear box, pro, and blades are in great shape. It's a old sidewinder with 90-100 Hp gear box, anyway buddy of mine said look around for a deck that had a bad gear box, we'll I found one the other day in really nice shape, heavy duty kodiak has the same mounting holes as mine for gear box. The only thing is it has dual tail wheels, mine had a single, this is only a six foot cutter, is the dual tail wheels a lot better or just be in the way more for turning and backing up to stuff?

I've run both and find in the woods, I am more likely to hit trees with the dual tail wheels, you will get get less scalping if you are mowing very short. I prefer the single tail wheel, but for the right price could live with duals; guess it depends on your uses.

I had a 5' King-Kutter and removed the single wheel that it had.

Reason was that 90% of the cutting I do is either 2-4' marsh grass, or trails in the woods.

The marsh grass cuttings would jam up the wheel so it wouldn't spin, and it was a lot handier in the woods without it.

Worked for me I guess.

I had a guy build me a new 7 foot deck using all 1/4" plate and the gear box and other parts from a 307 bush hog. I had him make dual wheels for the back and I think it helps carry the load better and more level than a single tail wheel would. It weighs in at about a ton so the extra wheel is just about an necessity.

I think a dual wheel set up might be shorter over all than a single wheel. If I were buying new, I would go for dual tail wheels.

Ok thanks guys, guess once I get it going , just try it with the dual wheels and if I don't like that setup build a single unit. I'll put some pics up after I get it finished.

According to Land Pride, their dual tail wheel RCR2684 is 116" and the single wheel is 132 1/2". Where I hit trees was not due to overall length, but the turning arc and dual wheels setting outboard further; depends on how you use it I suppose.

That's my concern with the wheels, the set up I have now I can run the front wheel right up to say a tree then turn as tight as it will and the tail wheel will just miss the tree. But with the double wheels setting out board farther I'm sure I will forget and hit something. :)
